In Argentina, there is a widely known custom of eating ñoquis on the 29th of each month and placing a bill or coins under the plate. Before the meal, money is placed on the table and covered with the plate of ñoquis. The money under the plate is said to symbolize a wish for prosperity in the coming month. During the meal, the corner of a bill or part of a coin may be visible beneath the plate. Similar customs are also found in Uruguay and Paraguay.
