In Zagreb, Croatia's capital, the Grič cannon at Lotrščak Tower in the Upper Town is fired every day at noon. Around the promenade and lookout points just before lunchtime, people keep walking or briefly stop, aware that noon is approaching. When the cannon sounds, a few people look up toward the tower, then soon go back to walking and talking.

This is not a military ceremony, but an everyday noon scene in Zagreb. According to the Zagreb Tourist Board, the noon firing at Lotrščak Tower dates back to a noon signal first sounded on 1 January 1877.
