What do the women of Lefkara, Cyprus hand-embroider together in the village?

Lefkara, a village in Cyprus, is known for its lace embroidery. Lefkara lace, also called Lefkaritika, is a hand-embroidery tradition that dates back at least to the 14th century.
On white or ivory linen, makers create geometric openwork and stitched patterns with ecru and brown-toned thread; women have long sat together in narrow streets or covered patios as they sew. In Lefkara today, workshops and apprenticeship programmes continue to pass the skill on.
