What is a garrafón in Mexican homes?

In many Mexican homes, drinking water is prepared separately from tap water. In 2017, 76.3% of households in Mexico obtained drinking water through large jugs such as garrafones or through purchased bottled water. In some neighborhoods, people take an empty garrafón to a nearby purificadora, have it filled, and carry the full 20-liter jug home. At home, they pour water into cups either with a bomba attached to the garrafón or with a small dispensador.
